Frequently Asked Questions
Who runs English Evolution?
English Evolution is just me. I create the lessons, teach the classes, answer your emails, make the videos, and run the whole program. I’m not a big company – every student matters. When you join, you support my work, and I work hard to make sure you get results.
How many students are in group classes?
This varies by the day. There will be no more than 10 students signed up for any class, and usually our actual class size is smaller than that because not every student attends every class.
How are academy lessons structured?
Lesson formats vary. Some courses are video-based, some text-based, some audio-based. Some have quizzes or practice activities. EEA offers courses in native expressions, phrasal verbs, grammar, and pronunciation—always designed to improve speaking and listening. Group classes focus on speaking and targeted grammar practice for fluency and accuracy.
What level of English do I need to join English Evolution Academy?
These lessons are for intermediate to advanced students who want to improve conversational English, grammar, and pronunciation. The Core Grammar course reviews some basic grammar points, but EEA is not for beginners.
For group classes, I offer two levels: intermediate (B1-B2) and intermediate-advanced (B2-C1).
Please note: All instruction is given in English.
How old do I have to be to join?
My programs are for adults. Mature teens may join the self-study academy, but nothing here is intended for children.
How often are new lessons uploaded?
I try to upload new content monthly, but it varies.
Will I still have access to the course library after stopping lessons?
No. When your membership ends, your access to the course platform and lesson videos ends too. While you’re a student, you can download PDF class notes and audio files—those are yours to keep.
Will I get homework or practice tasks between lessons?
The self-study program is self-guided & no homework is required. There are quizzes and practice activities, and I offer recommendations about how to use the materials to get the most out of them. But it’s up to you to decide how much effort you will put into this.
How can I get support between lessons?
For self-study students, you can post questions in the Self-Study Telegram group, and you can join the weekly Q&A to ask your questions.
For group class students, you will have your own Group Class Telegram chat where you can post questions and get class updates & access class recordings.
For private students, just send me a message or post your question in any of the groups chats.
How many students are in group classes?
This varies by the day. There will be no more than 10 students signed up for any class, and usually our actual class size is smaller than that because not every student attends every class.
How long and how often are group classes?
Standard group classes are 50 minutes, and they are held four days a week.
What time zone are group classes held in?
My time zone is Pacific Standard Time (PST). Class times are shown in PST and other major time zones, but you may need to convert them to your local time to make sure the times are convenient for you.
Do you offer classes for Europe/Middle East/Africa?
Right now I don’t have classes open at convenient times for students in those time zones, but if enough of you are interested, I will open one! So if you are in Europe/Middle East/Africa, and you want to have classes, email me or book a call and we can discuss future options.
What if I’m shy or nervous about speaking in class?
It’s normal and you have to do it anyway😆 But don’t worry! Everyone is nervous at first. We have very small groups so you will get to know people and feel more comfortable pretty quickly. Also, if you want to increase your confidence in speaking, that is like 80% speaking in class. Your confidence will improve so quickly.
Will I have the same teacher for all lessons?
I teach every class personally.
Do I have to come to all group classes?
Nope. You don’t have to come 4 days a week. Obviously it’s best if you do, but there is no penalty for missing classes – other than the fact that you won’t get to discuss amazing topics with cool people.
What if I miss a class? Can I reschedule or get a recording?
Group classes are not rescheduled, but you can access class recordings for 2-3 weeks after missing a class.
What if I’m running late to class?
Try your best not to be late. It is not fair to others in the class. You will be lost when you join, and I have to stop the class and waste time explaining something I’ve already explained. If you must be late occasionally, enter silently and wait for me to catch you up. If you are habitually late, expect a conversation from me.
What technology do I need for the lessons?
Stable wifi, a camera, and headphones that work well.
This is especially important for group classes. Cameras much be on, and we must be able to hear you clearly.
Group classes and weekly Q&As are by video on Zoom. Private classes can be held on Zoom or Google Meet, based on your preference. I do not give audio-only classes and I do not give classes via WhatsApp.
All class notes and handouts are google drive files. You can still access everything without having the app on your phone or tablet, but it will make it 1000x easier to access if you download the app (it’s free).
How do I start group classes?
It required to book a call with me before starting lessons. We need to discuss your specific goals and schedule to make sure we will work well together. And in the case of group classes, we need to make sure your level is right for the class you want to join.
Do you offer private lessons?
I give private lessons, but space is limited, so I may or may not be accepting new students now. [link to check]
Can private lessons be rescheduled?
Private lessons can be rescheduled if we can agree on a time and if you give me 24 hours notice. Last-minute cancellations and no-call-no-shows are not rescheduled.
If you have to miss multiple classes (for example if you go on vacation), we will find a fair solution that works for both of us.
I want private lessons but they are not available now
If you want private lessons but they are not currently available, I recommend that you start with group classes. When you take group lessons, we meet once a month privately anyway, you can see my teaching style, and I will get to know your goals and challenges. We will be in contact regularly, so it will be easy for me to notify you when a spot opens up. If that’s not an option for you, you could start the self-study program and show up to weekly Q&A calls to discuss future options.
Can I change paths later (for example, go from self-study to VIP private or from VIP to group study)?
Absolutely, and I’m happy to work with you financially to make the transition fair. Keep in mind that with both group study and private lessons, there are limited spots, and you will have to meet with me before you switch.
How long will it take to see results?
Improving language skills is a long-term project. This might help you to put things in perspective.
Example: Imagine you are level B2 now. It’s generally understood that moving from level B2→C1 takes about 200-250 guided learning hours. If you break that down in terms of study hours per week, you get this:
3 hours/week – 15 to 19 months
5 hours/week – 9 to 12 months
7 hours/week – 7 to 8 months
10 hours/week – 5 to 6 months
15 hours/week – 3 to 4 months
20 hours/week – 2 to 3 months
30+ hours/week – 1.5 to 2 months
That means if you study for 5 hours a week, it will take you a year to level up.
How long it will take YOU depends on how much time YOU spend. It also depends on your intelligence and talent for language. It also depends on what you are doing during your “study hours.”
For example, practicing targeted patterns and vocabulary in class counts toward those hours, but watching Netflix in English does not count. This is why English Evolution uses a point system based on “productive” activities. You don’t get to log Netflix-watching hours, but you do get to log conversation-practice hours.
How much does it cost to join?
It depends on which path you choose. Self-study is $15/month. Group lessons are $120/month. VIP Private lessons are $250/month.
How do I pay, and what payment methods do you accept?
All normal payment methods are accepted: Visa, Mastercard, Paypal, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. All memberships are subscriptions by default. When you set up your payment, it will automatically come out every month. It is easy to cancel, but you do have to cancel when you want to stop lessons.
Can I pause my membership instead of canceling if life gets busy?
Yes. You can pause for up to [2 months? – depends on system in new website]. [link or instructions]
Can I pay all at once instead of monthly?
Yes, there is an option to pay for 1 year upfront. That is a special option offered at a discount. [link]
Do you offer any discounts or special offers?
Yes, there are “paid-in-full” options for each path that discount the amount of one month. Basically, when you pay for the year, you pay for 11 months instead of 12.
Self-study $165
Group $1320
VIP $2750
Do you offer refunds or changes if my situation changes?
Full refunds are available within 14 days of purchase, unless you’ve accessed course materials. After that, no refunds except in special situations. I can often apply your payment to another program if your situation changes. My goal is to treat people fairly while keeping the program running smoothly.
How do I request a refund?
Email me directly at [email – maybe hostinger, maybe gmail idk yet]
Do you give certificates after completing a course?
English Evolution does not automatically issue certificates for simply finishing a course, because that’s not the purpose of the academy. This program is about real-world speaking ability, not completing tasks or collecting certificates.
Do you have any way to measure progress?
I have designed a point-based leveling system, which I created to show your progress over time. You earn points by doing the kinds of activities that actually work to improve your English: speaking in class, logging practice hours, and using English in real situations.
You will feel your improvement. And there are ways to measure your improvement more objectively. But it’s not about completing lessons or passing tests – the point system is really a way to help you see how the right activities lead to real-world improvement.
