Before you join
What level do I need?
These lessons are for intermediate to advanced students who want to improve conversational English, accuracy, and pronunciation. Some courses review basic points, but the Academy is not for absolute beginners. All instruction is in English.
How are the lessons structured?
Course formats vary. Some courses are video-based, some text-based, and some audio-based. Most courses have short, downloadable audios for each lesson, so you can listen while driving, walking or doing chores.
How often are new lessons uploaded?
Generally, I upload new content monthly, although priorities shift from month to month. I create everything, from the short videos to the lessons themselves.
Will I get homework or practice tasks?
There are quizzes and practice activities, and I offer recommendations about how to use the materials to get the most out of them.
How do I measure my progress?
All digital courses have practice tests. After each lesson, take the quiz to test your understanding.
But the best way to judge your progress is to watch yourself speak. Choose a topic you know a lot about, hit record on your phone, and speak without preparation for 1 minute. It can be uncomfortable, and most people won't do it. If you want faster progress than average, do what the average person refuses to do.
How long will it take to see results?
Moving up one level (for example, B2 to C1) takes about 200–250 hours. At 5 hours a week, that's about a year. At 10 hours a week, it's about 5 to 6 months. Those hours have to be productive to count: watching Netflix doesn't count, but active conversation practice does.
Can I talk to Anming?
Yes. Ask your questions in the Online Community Space and I answer them. If you want live practice with me, join a group class.
Can I move to group classes later?
Absolutely, and I'm happy to work with you financially to make the transition fair. Group classes have limited spots, and we'll meet before you switch to discuss the details.
Can I get a refund?
Full refunds are available within 14 days of purchase, but not if you have already accessed course materials. If your situation changes, I can often apply your payment to another program.
