Is this you?

You know a lot of words in English,
but you can't find them in conversation.

  • You can discuss the technical aspects of your job. It's the small talk with coworkers that makes you freeze.
  • You understand movies and podcasts. But you can't find the right language to explain them.
  • You have already studied a lot of grammar, but you still make the same mistakes.
  • You feel like your spoken English is too basic.
  • People are too polite to correct your mistakes, so you're not sure what mistakes you're making.

You don't need more “study.” You need a lot more practice, with someone who corrects you.

Questions

Before you join

What level do I need?

Classes are for intermediate to advanced students who want to improve conversational English, accuracy, and pronunciation. They are not for absolute beginners. All instruction is in English.

How long and how often are classes?

Standard group classes are 55 minutes. Schedules can vary, but generally we meet three times per week.

What time zone are classes in?

My time zone is Pacific Time (like California). For most of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, classes are in your afternoon or evening. For most of Asia, classes are in the early morning.

How many students are in a class?

No more than 8, so you get many chances to speak.

What is the format?

Classes focus on speaking, plus targeted grammar and vocabulary practice for fluency and accuracy. Generally we learn, practice, learn, practice. When we practice, we take turns so everyone gets many chances to use what we're learning.

Is there homework?

I recommend a specific spoken review process that takes 5–15 minutes per day. This solo review is what helps you remember what you learn. You also get one grammar review per week to study on your own.

What if I miss a class?

There's no penalty for missing a class. Classes can't be rescheduled, but you can watch the class recording for one week after you miss it.

What if I'm shy or nervous about speaking?

Everyone is nervous at first. For most students, building confidence speaking is the whole point, so you jump in and speak anyway. You'll feel comfortable quickly as you get to know the other students. They are welcoming and respectful.

What do I need for class?

Stable wifi, a camera, and headphones that work well. Classes are on Zoom with cameras on. Class notes are Google Drive files, so if you join from a phone or tablet, download the Google Drive app.

Is Self-Study included?

Yes. You get the full library, the Online Community Space and new lessons every month.

How do I start?

Book a call with me first. We'll talk about your goals, expectations and schedule to make sure my classes are a good fit for you.
